World-Class Gyan Vigyan Park Taking Shape in Gorakhpur: Yogi Government’s Big Push for Science Education

Built at a cost of ₹15.89 crore in Veer Bahadur Singh Planetarium, park to be ready by March 2026; modernization of planetarium underway with ₹46.88 crore project

Gorakhpur: The Yogi Adityanath government is taking a major step toward making Gorakhpur a hub of science and innovation. A world-class Gyan Vigyan Park is being constructed within the Veer Bahadur Singh Nakshatra Shala campus in memory of Brahmaleen Mahant Avaidyanath. The park, being built at a cost of ₹15.89 crore, is expected to be completed by March 2026.

Simultaneously, under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Nakshatra Shala itself is undergoing a comprehensive modernization project worth ₹46.88 crore, which will be completed by December 2026. Once completed, it will be the second science park in Uttar Pradesh, following the one in Lucknow.

The initiative traces back to October 2022, when CM Yogi visited the Nakshatra Shala to observe a partial solar eclipse and announced his vision to transform it into a world-class science center. Following his instructions, the detailed project report (DPR) was prepared, and modernization began on July 5, 2024, while construction of the Gyan Vigyan Park started on May 5, 2025.

A Hub of Modern Science Learning

The upgraded planetarium and the new Gyan Vigyan Park will feature cutting-edge facilities, including 3D projectors, an amphitheater, an activity lab, and a special science gallery. These attractions will enable students to learn complex scientific concepts through interactive and play-based learning.

According to Dr. Mahadev Pandey, in-charge of the Veer Bahadur Singh Nakshatra Shala, “The modernization will make this one of India’s most advanced science centers. High-end scientific instruments and interactive tools are being procured to help students explore astronomy, space, and physics in engaging ways.”

Minister Reviews Progress

Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Science and Technology, Anil Kumar, inspected the ongoing construction work on Wednesday. During his visit, he directed officials to ensure that the facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and scientific equipment to make science and astronomy more accessible to students, researchers, and the general public.

He emphasized that the quality and timeliness of construction must be maintained, adding that the park should be developed in a manner that makes it a premier science education center not only for Gorakhpur but for the entire Purvanchal region.

“The Yogi government is committed to promoting a scientific temperament and encouraging innovation across Uttar Pradesh,” the minister stated. “The Nakshatra Shala and the upcoming Gyan Vigyan Park will play a crucial role in nurturing young scientific minds.”

Once operational, the park and modernized planetarium are expected to become a major attraction for science enthusiasts, students, and researchers, further positioning Gorakhpur as a beacon of scientific learning and innovation in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
